Doing business in the Netherlands
11:45 - 12:30
The Dutch are some of the happiest and healthiest people on earth. Why? Because we take care of each other. Because our country was built on cooperation. We are entrepreneurial, resourceful and highly educated. This has resulted in the best healthcare in Europe, and an internationally leading Life Sciences & Health sector.
In this interactive session Sandra de Wild (Life Sciences & Health sector specialist for The Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency) and Susan van Boxtel (team manager Health & Food at East Netherlands Development Agency) share the services of the international Invest in Holland network, and how we support your company’s ambitions to establish in the Netherlands: Europe’s most attractive and innovative health industry environment.
Concentrated life sciences regions
The Netherlands is home to more than 3,100 innovative life sciences and health companies, employing over 34,000 people, University Medical Centers and research organizations. Together with major multinationals like Vaxxinova, MSD, Amgen, Genmab, Lonza, Astellas, Aduro Biotech, GlaxoSmithKline and Medtronic, the Netherlands boasts one of the most concentrated life sciences regions in the world within a 200 km radius.
World-class health and research institutes
Moreover, the country is fuelled by world-class health and research institutes, including 12 research universities, 85 hospitals at 131 locations — seven of which are University Medical Centers— 112 outpatient clinics and around 50 public-private partnerships between science, industry and government.
The Netherlands has a vibrant biotech ecosystem that is growing quickly. The Netherlands has the most concentrated life sciences cluster in Europe, and Amsterdam is the location of the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
What makes the Netherlands an attractive location for foreign biopharma or medtech companies? What opportunities does the arrival of the EMA in the Netherlands offer? But also, how can we improve the business climate and our ecosystem in the Life Sciences & Health sector?
